Introduction
POGO (Plant Ontology & Gene Ontology) is a tool composed of differents requests that query the Gene Ontology (GO) Database and the Plant Ontology (PO) database. These differents queries are divided in five tabs like "Generic Query, Find, Distance, Domains, Go Ensembl" for the GO interface and three "Generic Query, Find, Distance" for the Po interface. To know precisely what kind of queries are found in these differents tabs, there is a POGO Help navigation which is activated when you pass with your mouse on the differents tabs.
Interface of the two Browsers
The two interfaces are very similar, they function on the same principe, so this help explain how to use the GO interface of POGO, but PO has similar functions.
When the user click on POGO in the database page, he arrives on the Go interface of POGOClick on the link "TO PO" to switch to the PO interface.
click on the link TO PO to arrive on PO database.

You are on the PO interface.

Generic Query
When you arrived on the GO interface, the Generic Query is selected by default.
This page queries the Go database and retrieves all the GO terms, GO:id associated, Ontologies types associated and Synonyms GO terms associated to your entered data.
Your submission can be a simple GO:id or GO term or a list of them. If you want insert a list you must use a delimiter to separate the entries ; the delimiter is the comma ",".
For example a simple GO term can be ""cytosol"" or ""GO:0005829"" for the GO:id that corresponds to the GO:id of cytosol.
We can also use the filters to retrieve a specific information. You can specify your request on "the type of request", on "the ontology type", on the "database", and on the "species".
The type of request is composed of "GO:TERM/SYNONYM", "GO:Exact TERM", "GO:ID".
The "GO:TERM/SYNONYM" queries the database and retrieves all the information in the term or synonym that contains your entry.
The "GO:Exact TERM" and "GO:ID" requests retrieve just the information that correponds exactely of your submission.
In this case we inserted a list of GO terms: "membrane, cytosol, nucleus" without use the filters.

Results for the Generic Query
You obtain a list of results for all the data that you submissed because you have choose the GO:TERM/SYNONYM" request.
The result that you can see correponds of the result that could be obtain if you selected "GO:Exact TERM" to realise your request.
If you want all the results for an entry click on the ""plus image"".

The others Requests
The other requests function on the same principle as well on the level of the interface of the submissions as of that of the results; except for the tab "Distance" that don't accept a list of entries as submission.
