Who we are


The Bioinformatics Lab is headed and managed by Prof. Anna Tramontano and composed of experts from different countries, who are constantly in touch with the international scientific community. Our team includes more than twenty highly qualified researchers and technicians from educational backgrounds ranging from biology to physics, from computer science to statistics.

The Bioinformatics Lab is composed of a Research group and a Software Support Services and Development (S3D) group.

The main activities

  • the development of new methods for the computational analysis of biochemical and genetics data
  • the application of computational tools to the study of problems of biomedical relevance
  • the trainining of researchers in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology
  • the access to standard bioinformatics tools and databases services to the scientific community
  • the development of new tools and databases to serve the needs of the local/collaboration scientists

Bioinformatics is one of the Research and Technological Development activity of CRS4 (Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia) that performs R&D activities based on ITs, networks, and high-performance computing. Research targets the development of enabling technologies, such as physical and mathematical modelling and information science in themes identified as strategic on a regional, national, and European level.

CRS4 is part of the Technology Park Sardegna Ricerche, a focal point of attraction for high-tech industrial research, and aims at co-operating with Industry, the Academic world and European Scientific Laboratories.The technology Park is a system of advanced infrastructures and services for innovation, research and technology transfer with two offices: at Cagliari-Pula, and at Alghero-Tramariglio. Originating from the joint commitment of Autonomous Region of Sardinia and the European Union, Sardegna Ricerche was created to strengthen the competitiveness of already existing regional enterprises, foster the creation of new local companies with high-tech content, and attract to Sardinia research centres and high-tech companies, both national and foreign.

CRS4 is located inside the Sardegna Ricerche Technology Park of Pula (Sardinia),
about 40 Km West from Cagliari (GPS coordinates: 38.991 N 8.937 E).
