Gianmaria Mancosu

I joined the bioinformatics research group at CRS4 in Winter, 2006. My research interests are mainly focused on computational issues on bioinformatics and personalized medicine.

Current Research Interests

System Biology

I became part of the RAGNO Group, guided by Alberto de la Fuente, with the main purpose of investigating gene regulatory networks of simple organisms (like yeast), by applying graph theory and social networking algorithms.

Pharmacogenetics

We are investigating drugs metabolism associated to patient’s genotypes of human cytochrome P450. We are developing a database and an inquiry application to let researchers be able to recognize autonomously their samples and let them suggest the correct therapy.

Education

2004

PhD in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, University of Cagliari, Italy

Research on methods for protein secondary structure prediction. The developed software architecture is based on a multi-expert multi-agent hybrid (ANN-GA, XCS) classifier system. It was a four-years team work, bringing to the deployment of MASSP, a Multi-Agent Secondary Structure Predictor. There is also a Java implementation of the designed architecture (JMASSP).
2000
Laurea in Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari, Italy

Thesis on the study and implementation of innovative algorithms for motion detection systems from real-time video sequences. The procedure is based on the enrichment of the motion estimation with an evaluation of its reliability. In a hierarchic architecture, this additional parameter speeds up calculus of the optical field, obtaining better results in terms of precision and quality.
